Our Merino sheep are a commercial flock and have been run here on this farm for over 50 years. There have been a lot of changes from their early beginnings and the last 16 years has seen a greater focus on fleece handle and length.
The young sheep have an average fibre diameter of around 17 micron and the adult sheep average 18-19 micron. The average staple length on the adult fleeces is over 10cm and the flock “comfort factor” measurement is over 99%.
The wool going into our combed tops is professionally classed at shearing time and consists only of our prime fleeces. This results in a superior length and handle in the tops as well as very little processing waste.
